Amy da Luz, Teacher - As an actor I am a proud member of both the Actors Equity Association (AEA) and SAG-AFTRA. I’ve appeared in dozens of profressional stage productions (stills from a few favorites above) and worked in Film/TV where I have appeared in several features and independent films as well as countless student films, commercials and industrials. I was the founding Artistic Director of Paper Lantern Theatre Company, a small professional theatre based in the Triad that produced contemporary theater for nine years. I have been an Adjunct Professor at UNCG, NCA&T, and Guilford College, where I have been teaching acting and playwriting for over 12 years. I still enjoy every minute of it. I have an MFA in Acting from the Univesity of North Carolina at Greensboro. I am the Managing Director of Bending Tree Creative Collective, and a member of Delurk Gallery as a Literary Artist.

My Goals for the Class
First and foremost, acting should be fun. This class should be fun! Even at it’s most “devastating”, there is joy to be found in “playing”. I want all my students to leave the class having done something they were afraid to do. Challenge themselves. Be vulnerable. That’s when real art (and growth) happens. Of course, I want my students to learn more about the craft of acting than they knew coming in, but also to learn something new about themselves.

And finally…
The craft of acting is based in “spiral learning” (as opposed to “linear learning”). There is no finish line. No final “answer”. You’ll learn something new each and every time you become a student of the craft, and come around to the same or similar lessons. Because what has changed as you approach each lesson is YOU. And YOU (mind, body, spirit) are the tools of the craft.
